Trauma & Wellness

Most addictions and mental health problems begin with individuals’ inability to deal with and process the trauma they encounter in their lives, from abusive relationships, sexual abuse, etc. Trauma and violence are widespread, harmful, and costly health concerns. They have no boundaries with regard to age, gender, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Trauma is a common experience for adults and children in American communities, and it is especially common in the lives of people with mental and substance-use disorders. For this reason, the need to address trauma is increasingly seen as an important part of effective behavioral health care.

Trauma Therapy

Many clients self-medicate by process of chemical addictions to repress traumatic experiences. We begin to explore these traumas by using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), as well as creative therapies and worksheets, like the “trauma egg,” as a way to begin to explore the trauma.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR has standardized protocols that have helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress. This is also used with body/somatic therapy to help release body memories.
